THE GREAT DISNEYHOLE EXPOSITION

An open call for creative, imaginative proposals for the use of Philadelphia's 8th and Market DisneyHole for the greater public good.

Save The DisneyHole!

The big muddy hole at 8th and Market streets provides Philadelphia with a great opportunity to take bold steps to promote visionary urban redevelopment. PIRA believes that the City's current plan: to fill in and repave the hole, turning it back into a parking lot, is not worthy of a city with Philadelphia's illustrious revolutionary heritage. Philadelphia deserves a more innovative solution to this problem. In keeping with the spirit of democracy that is so closely associated with our city's history, PIRA is proud to announce
THE GREAT DISNEYHOLE EXPOSITION

  • Who can enter? Anyone is welcome to submit an idea or proposal. No special training, degree, certification, or technical expertise is required to submit your idea. PIRA encourages everyone, including people who don't live in the Philadelphia area, to submit your proposals.
  • Does it have to be a building? No! Any and all ideas, from the wonderfully practical to the sublimely ridiculous will be considered. PIRA's aim is to stimulate discussion and debate. Homeless shelter? Luxury hamster resort? Portal to another dimension? Recycling facility? Great ideas! The city needs your inspiration, so follow your interests and passions, and submit your proposals.
  • What should I submit? PIRA will accept submissions of any kind. If you want to submit a drawing, anything from a rough sketch to an architectural rendering is fine. Don't like to draw? PIRA will accept submissions in any medium: a model, a written or recorded description, a Flash animation, a poem or song, a performance, a tattoo... whatever medium suits you and your proposal best. Feel free to EMAIL:

us if you have any questions.
  • Click here for entry materials.
  • When is the deadline? We are still accepting proposals: there is no deadline. PIRA sponsored an exhibition of proposals at the 8th and market DisneyHole site on Thursday August 22nd 2002 (click here to read an Inquirer story about the exhibition), and then for a month at Reset Art, 211 S. Camac St.
We are investigating possible sites in Center City for future showings of the proposals. Late proposals can be EMAILED: or mailed to PIRA during or after the exhibition.
All submissions will be displayed on our Website.

Click here to see the submissions.
